Our veterinarians
Dr. Shannon Ewing
Practice Owner
Meet Dr. Ewing, the heart and soul behind Collier Animal Hospital since its doors opened in 2008. Hailing from Columbia, South Carolina, Dr. Ewing ventured south into gator territory for her undergraduate studies at the University of Florida. She then honed her veterinary skills at the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine before completing a small animal internship at Purdue University.
Dr. Ewing thrives on challenging cases that test her skills and help her patients lead healthier lives. Blending keen insight with compassionate care, Dr. Ewing takes a special interest in surgery and oncology.
Outside of the hospital, Dr. Ewing can indulge in her other passions: traveling the world, biking through scenic trails, and cultivating her garden. You can admire some of her finest gardening handiwork right outside the clinic!
Dr. Ewing’s commitment to excellence makes her not just a favorite among her patients and clients, but also a true cornerstone of our community.
Dr. Harshila Ballal
Veterinarian
Meet Dr. Ballal, our Tampa-raised veterinarian who swapped palm trees for city streets when she came to Atlanta to attend Emory University for undergrad and then later Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine (aka Virginia Tech). Since 2021, she’s been a vital part of the Collier Animal Hospital team, with a special interest in cases that involve cardiology and neurology.
When she’s not solving complex medical puzzles, you’ll often find her on the tennis courts, hiking trails, or with her nose in a book from one of her many book clubs (yes, she’s in more than one!). And check this out: Dr. Ballal once did an exotic animal externship in Florida that landed her in the background of a reality TV show on Nat Geo Wild! So if you’re binge-watching and squint just right, you might catch a glimpse of her in a previous life!
From tennis balls to stethoscopes, Dr. Ballal brings her A-game to everything she does, making her an irreplaceable part of our team and a favorite among patients and colleagues alike.
Dr. Randi Schroedel
Veterinarian
Meet Dr. Schroedel, a born-and-raised Georgia peach who knew she wanted to be a veterinarian before most kids could even spell “veterinarian”. After showing her competitive spirit on the women’s soccer team at Armstrong State University in Savannah, she traded in her cleats for a stethoscope at the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine (Go Dawgs!).
Her favorite cases involve dermatology—she loves solving the mysteries behind itchy skin, strange rashes, and all things flaky. But what really drives Dr. Schroedel is the chance to work alongside incredible people she learns from every day, all while helping both pets and their humans.
With her empathetic nature and a passion for teamwork, Dr. Schroedel is a key player here at Collier Animal Hospital. She’s always ready to jump in and tackle the next challenge!
Dr. Desiree Taylor
Veterinarian
Meet Dr. Taylor, a Georgia native who took the long way home after spending eight years in Portland, Oregon. A proud double Dawg, she earned both her undergrad and veterinary degrees from the University of Georgia (Go Dawgs!) before joining Collier Animal Hospital in April 2024. Dr. Taylor’s favorite cases include surgery, dentistry, senior care, and pain management—she’s always looking for ways to help patients feel their best, whether it’s through a precise dental cleaning or helping a senior pet comfortably enjoy their golden years.
When she’s not in the clinic, you can find Dr. Taylor enjoying life with her family, hiking a scenic trail, immersed in a good book, or planning her next travel adventure. With a mix of Southern charm and a dash of Pacific Northwest vibe, Dr. Taylor brings a unique blend of experience and warmth to the Collier team!
Dr. Carrie Smith
Veterinarian
Meet Dr. Smith, a proud double Dawg who earned both her undergraduate and veterinary degrees from the University of Georgia—because once a Bulldog, always a Bulldog! While in vet school, she also tackled a master’s degree in veterinary pathology—talk about dedication!
Dr. Smith has a particular love for cases involving ophthalmology and neurology. Outside of the clinic, you’ll find her spending quality time with her kids, playing competitive tennis, and, of course, cheering on the Georgia Bulldogs (Saturdays in the fall are sacred!).
With her passion for learning, dedication to her patients, and love for all things Georgia, Dr. Smith brings a mix of expertise and enthusiasm to the team. Whether she’s on the tennis court or in the clinic, she’s always ready to serve up her best!

Casey
CSR
Meet Casey, our Atlanta native who has proudly lived within a 5-mile radius in Buckhead her entire life! Joining Collier in October 2024, Casey’s journey into veterinary medicine began after adopting her heart dog, Reagan, from the Atlanta Humane Society.
In her downtime, Casey can be found indulging in the latest trashy reality TV shows, burying her nose in a good book, or testing her wits at trivia nights. An interesting tidbit about Casey is that as a child, she taught herself how to play the violin and piano, yet to this day, she’s never quite mastered reading sheet music.
With her deep-rooted love for animals and quirky talents, Casey brings a unique blend of passion and personality to our Collier team.
Nathalie
Technician Supervisor
Meet Nathalie! Hailing from Northern Virginia, Nathalie joined our team in September 2022, bringing with her a passion for animals sparked by her formative years as an only child—she found that critters make the best companions!
When she’s not caring for our furry friends, you can catch Nathalie spinning tunes as a DJ, diving into various sports (hopefully not all at once), indulging in gourmet delights, and jet-setting to new and exciting destinations. Fun fact: she once dazzled in a Filipino beauty pageant, clinching fifth place out of 25 contestants—proving she’s not just skilled with a turntable!
At home, Nathalie is surrounded by her adorable fur family: Teddy, Leo, and Goldie the cats, and her pup Riyah. Nathalie’s vibrant spirit and dedication to animal welfare enrich both our lives and those of our beloved patients.

At home, Jackie’s hands are full with her two dogs, Tyson and Oscar, and her precious new baby boy, DJ! When she’s not at the clinic, she loves spending quality time with her family, often exploring local breweries with her husband. Breezy and her rescue dog, Gus Gus, have been staples around here since October 2022. When she’s not lending a helping hand to our furry friends, you might find her hiking through the Georgia wilderness, enjoying a live show, or savoring the menu at her favorite restaurant—likely with an extra side of pickles, because for Breezy, life is just better with pickles!
Breezy’s grounded demeanor and quirky personality infuse our clinic with warmth and laughter, making both two-legged and four-legged clients feel right at home.
